Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was in tears after the curtain on his career was lifted after losing in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday.
The Frenchman, who had announced he would retire after this year’s Roland Garros, was defeated 6-7 (6) 7-6 (4) 6-2 7-6 (0) by Norwegian Kasper Rood, to help his An 18-year professional career came to an end.
The 37-year-old received a standing ovation from the crowd at Philippe Chattier as he said goodbye to a courtroom that he has entertained on countless occasions.
