Justin James Watt (born March 22, 1989) is an American football defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Wisconsin, and was drafted by the Houston Texans in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Brothers
The Watt family’s 2020 Thanksgiving will be different, but not for the reasons you’d think. and that was before the rescheduling
The three Watt brothers – JJ, Derek and TJ. – Were about to play NFL games on Thanksgiving Day. JJ The Kay Texans face the Lions in Detroit, but Derek and T.J. Both play for the Steelers, whose game against the Ravens has been moved from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon. It should have been a fitting national stage for the trio, who played on the same ground earlier this season when Pittsburgh beat Houston.
Stats

Watt was born on March 22, 1989, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, to parents Connie, a building operations vice president, and John, a firefighter. JJ Both of his younger brothers also play in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Derek Watts is a fullback and T.J. Watt plays outside the linebacker. Watt played ice hockey from the age of four until the age of 13 and played for traveling or competing teams that traveled to Canada and Germany. He quit hockey when the weekly games began to conflict with his schedule and for financial reasons. Watt also played football as a child and became obsessed with the sport while in fifth grade.
Watt attended Peugeot High School, where he was a four-year letter-winner in football and also wrote in basketball, baseball, and track and field. He earned the Woodland Conference Player of the Year award his senior year, and first-team all-state, all-county, all-area and all-conference selections as a tight end and defensive end. He was also named the team’s MVP. During his senior year, Watt accumulated a total of 399 receiving yards, 26 catches and 5 touchdowns.
Contract
The defensive end is guaranteed $20 million upon signing JJ Watts. This amount ijncludes a $2,400,000 2020 salary and a roster bonus of $2,250,000, as well as a signing bonus of $3.5 million from his 2022 salary. $3 million of 2022 pay is an injury reserve and becomes fully guaranteed in March 2022.
The deal also grants a $1 million base escalator for 10 sacks in 2021 and 2022, and another $1 million in bonuses. In that example, Watt would count for $10.6 million in dead money in 2022 when the Cardinals had the business. The contract also has a no-trade clause.
Salary
Technically, the contract that Watts signed actually has an original value of $35.2 million over five years. For practical purposes, this is a two-year, $28 million base deal with three years (2023–2025) at $2.4 million each year that automatically voids when they are on the roster on the final day of the 2022 league year. This enables signing bonuses to be proportionate over five years instead of two.
Of the $23 million guaranteed, $20 million is fully guaranteed to sign with another $3 million guaranteed for injury only. If he receives a roster bonus of $2.25 million, then $3 million of his 2022 basic pay will be fully guaranteed in March, 2022.
Sacks
TJ Watt hit the 20-sack mark for the 2021 season with a monster game against the Cleveland Browns on Monday night, and J.J. Watt had the perfect big brother response to the achievement.
Only 12 players in NFL history have officially reached 20 sacks in a season. TJ Watt will now chase Michael Strahan’s record of 22.5 sacks in the 2001 season with the New York Giants.
JJ Watt, he posted 20.5 sacks in both the 2012 and 2014 seasons, a remarkable feat for a player often used as an interior pass-rusher. But if anyone is going to match his multiple 20-sack seasons, it might be his younger brother, who at the age of 27 has already posted four seasons with double-digit sacks.
Injury 2021
JJ Watts is many things, including being a millionaire, a household name, a charitable figure, and one of the greatest pass rushers in NFL history.
But among Watt’s most prominent qualities is his uncanny work ethic, and that’s why Cliff Kingsbury won’t be surprised if the five-time Pro Bowler and three-time Defensive Player of the Year returns from a bad shoulder injury this season. The injured reserve landed them.
“You can’t count him,” said the Cardinals’ coach. “He’s a machine, and he’s working like crazy. I’m never here when he’s not doing some kind of rehab here. And today, he was running on the field. So, you never go with him.” Know.”
During the open portion of the exercise, Watt was seen doing some conditioning with an athletic trainer. Shortly after the exercise, Watt tweeted a quote from Albert Einstein, one of the greatest physicists of all time, about his mindset after shoulder surgery in October: “Only the absurd try the impossible. Can get it.”
