James Richard Garopolo (born November 2, 1991), nicknamed Jimmy Gee, is an American football quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Eastern Illinois, where he won the Walter Peyton Award as a senior and set school records for career passing yards and passing touchdowns. Garoppolo was selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and spent his first four seasons as a backup to Tom Brady.

Since joining San Francisco in the middle of the 2017 season, Garoppolo has claimed a 6–0 regular season record against division-rivals the Rams. He is completing 68% of his passes in those six games with nine touchdowns against seven interceptions.
It was only last November that San Francisco found itself top 3-5 on a “Monday Night Football” date with the Rams in Santa Clara. The team responded with a 31–10 win in which Garoppolo defeated Matthew Stafford. The quarterback completed 15-in-19 passes for 182 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
For the 49ers, it helped them overcome early season struggles to finish 10-7 and make the playoffs. A few months later, they would fall to the Rams in Southern California in the NFC Championship Game, despite taking a double-point lead in the fourth quarter.
