Back injury

Jimmy Garoppolo: Back injury| Injury video| How is doing

Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looked uncomfortable late in the second half and limped to the line. He completed the drive, which resulted in a field goal, and then left the field for the training room for treatment.

He has not returned and probably never will.

The Raiders announced that Garoppolo has a back injury and is doubtful to return.

He went 14 of 22 for 162 yards with a 12-yard touchdown throw to Jakobi Meyers. His interception was a red zone pass that was intercepted by Davante Adams before being blown up by Jabrill Peppers, leaving the ball in the air for Jahlani Tavai.

Brian Hoyer will replace Garoppolo in the second half. He has thrown only 17 passes since the start of the 2021 season, and none this season.

More than an hour after the Las Vegas Raiders defeated the New England Patriots 21-17 on Sunday, Jimmy Garoppolo’s locker was still full of his personal belongings.

At halftime, the Raiders quarterback was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance to have his back injury examined.

Still, his presence was strongly felt in the locker room after the Raiders improved to 3-3 with their second straight win. 15th-year veteran backup Brian Hoyer replaced Garoppolo in the second half, leading the way to the win and preparing Las Vegas to face the Chicago Bears (1-5) next.

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said he did not have an update on Garoppolo’s status, although he acknowledged the QB leaving the stadium.

How is doing

Garoppolo has been reunited by the Raiders this offseason with his former Patriots offensive coordinator, McDaniels, who is now the head coach of Las Vegas. Over four games, Garoppolo completed 100 of 147 passes for 1,079 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
