Restraining order

Jim Harbaugh: Restraining order| Why did get suspended

The University of Michigan filed for a temporary restraining order Friday night in the 22nd Circuit Court of Washtenaw County in an effort to block the Big Ten’s decision to suspend running back Jim Harbaugh for the remainder of the regular season.

The case has been assigned to Judge Timothy P. Connors, who is also a lecturer at the UM Law School, according to court records. Harbaugh and the university Board of Regents are listed as plaintiffs, while Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petti and the Big Ten Conference are listed as defendants.

It’s unclear how quickly the court will act, but Michigan is hoping for promptness. The third-ranked Wolverines (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten) will face No. 10 Penn State (8-1, 5-1) at noon Saturday in State College. A judge would need to grant a temporary restraining order before Harbaugh could coach him to a significant top-10 performance.

Petti and the Big Ten issued a three-game suspension to Harbaugh on Friday afternoon, saying it violated the league’s sportsmanship policy “for conducting an inappropriate, personal scouting operation over multiple years, resulting in There was an unfair competitive advantage that involved the integrity of the competition.”

Why did get suspended

The Big Ten Conference announced Friday that it is suspending Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh from games for the remainder of the regular season after it was found that Harbaugh and his staff conducted an illegal sign-stealing operation.
