James Joseph Harbaugh (born December 23, 1963) is an American football coach and former quarterback, the current head football coach of the Michigan Wolverines. He played college football in Michigan from 1983 to 1986. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons from 1987 to 2000, with his longest stint as a player with the Chicago Bears. He served as the head coach of the San Diego Toreros (2004–2006), the Stanford Cardinals (2007–2010), and the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers (2011–2014). In 2015, Harbaugh returned to his alma mater, Michigan.

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh sparked outrage Tuesday when it was revealed he was a guest speaker at the Right to Life event over the weekend.
Harbaugh spoke at the Right to Life event in Plymouth, Michigan, where he explained why he was pro-life.
“I believe in having the courage to give birth to the unborn,” he said through Detroit Catholic. “I love life. I believe in having a loving care and respect for life and death. It is my faith and my science that inspire these beliefs in me. Quote from Jeremiah, ‘Before That I made you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I separated you. I have appointed you as a prophet to the Gentiles.'”

Back in April, Jim Harbaugh invited Colin Kaepernick to serve as “honorary captain” for a spring football game at the University of Michigan.
Kaepernick addressed the Wolverines team, flipped the pregame coin, and then at halftime, right in the middle of Michigan Stadium, conducted a rare public passing exercise in an attempt to catch the eye of NFL team scouts.
Harbaugh’s actions were well received by a certain section of the public and not well received by a different section of the public.

Harbaugh ended his college career as Michigan’s all-time record holder for passing yards with 5,449 yards. He held a career NCAA Division I-A passing efficiency record (149.6) for 12 years. Harbagh earned his BA. in Communications from the Michigan College of Literature, Science and the Arts in 1986.

Harbaugh was born in Toledo, Ohio. His father, Jack Harbaugh, was a football coach, and the family lived in Ohio, Kentucky, Iowa, Michigan, and California. He attended high school in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Palo Alto, California, when his father was an assistant coach at Michigan and Stanford, respectively. After graduating from high school in Palo Alto in 1982, Harbaugh returned to Ann Arbor and enrolled at the University of Michigan and played quarterback for the Wolverines, starting for three seasons. In 1986 as a fifth year senior, he led Michigan to the 1987 Rose Bowl and was a Heisman Trophy finalist, finishing third.

Their annual compensation starts at $7.05 million in 2022 and steadily increases to $7.63 million in 2026. In all, this is an increase of over $3 million from his 2021 base salary.
