Career wins
Duke Basketball officially announced that longtime head coach Mike Krzyzewski will retire after the 2021–22 season. He is currently at the top of the division all-time, one men’s basketball win by a head coach with 1,170. He’ll add to that with next season, and then his numbers will be set in stone.

Syracuse head coach Jim Boehm, still coaching, hasn’t announced any retirement plans, and has a chance to challenge that number. well sort of. Boehm currently has 1,083 victories in actuality. However, the NCAA discredited 101 wins due to violations. Therefore, the official NCAA record book reflects an alternate reality of 982 victories.
Defying the NCAA record book for a moment, Boehm’s 1,083 wins are 87 behind Krzyzewski. This variation may increase or decrease depending on the win totals of Duke and Syracuse in the following season. For the purposes of using a rounded number, we will assume a 90 win margin. Boeheim/Syracuse would need an average of 22.5 wins over four seasons to tie Krzyzewski. If Boehm coaches for five more seasons, the average win per season drops to 18.
Five more years would coach Boehm at age 81 and the first 80-year-old to coach in a Division One college basketball game. In a void that seems almost bottomless, but who will put it ahead of Boehm?
In the NCAA world, Boehm currently has 188 wins behind Coach Kay. It is very difficult but not completely impossible. To pass Coach K into the NCAA’s record books, Syracuse would have to average 23.5 wins over eight seasons. Eight more years would put Boehm at 84 years old.
