Jerry West says he has struggled with depression since childhood, when his father would beat up a future Hall of Famer, which lowered his self-esteem, which made him one of the NBA’s biggest influences. Despite a successful career plagued.

After he stopped playing, West became the head coach of the Lakers for three years and later became general manager. In 1996 West was voted one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history and was co-captain of the 1960 US Olympic gold medal team in Rome. 

West married his college sweetheart Martha Jane Kane in 1960. They had three sons, David, Mark, and Michael, and they divorced in 1976. Two years later, West married his current wife, Karen, with whom he has two sons: Ryan and Johnny.
