There was nothing wrong with his game. He was great on both ends of the floor, the clear number one choice for the Pistons. He was the best player on a bad team, which usually doesn’t get you into the game, which isn’t news to D’Aaron Fox, Demar DeRozen, and Devin Booker. Good players from bad teams simply don’t make the All-Star Game.

Next year, with the help of a lottery pick, Detroit should be much better. His young men have shown they can play some pretty good basketball, and without tanking, Jeremy Grant should be able to play a full season.

Shams Charaniya of The Athletic reports that the Lakers are eyeing a potential trade for Detroit Pistons forward Jeremy Grant. Grant is currently sidelined after suffering a UCL sprain (according to Keith Langlois of Piston.com) in his right thumb, and is set to be reevaluated six weeks from now.

Charnia noted that “dozens of teams” reach out to the league-worst Pistons on a weekly basis, in hopes of snatching the club’s best player. In 24 games this season, Grant averages 20.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks for the 4-22 Pistons.

Grant signed a three-year, $60 million contract with Detroit in 2020 as a free agent in a sign-and-trade, and was a finalist for Most Improved Player of the 2020-21 NBA season.

Charaniya noted that Grant is eligible for a four-year, $112 contract extension during the 2022 season

Salary

Jeramy Grant signed a 3-year / $60,007,500 contract with the Detroit Pistons, which includes a $60,007,500 guarantee and an annual average salary of $20,002,500. In 2021-22, Grant will earn a base salary of $20,02,500, with a cap hit of $20,002,500 and a dead cap value of $20,02,500.

Grant averages 20.1 points a game to lead the Pistons and is one of the primary shot creators for the team. Expect to see the pistons get bigger and more tray limes when Grant is out, but there’s no natural replacement for Grant on the roster. Cade Cunningham, who has improved in the season, is one gone, he will get more playing responsibilities.

Grant is also a name that often pops up in business rumours, with many teams using a 6’8″ wing for a post-season run and the Pistons are open to business as they rebuild.

Grant is back in the six-week time frame at the end of January before the February trading deadline. By the time he returns this season, teams will be interested in Grant (who makes $20 million this season and $21 the next season, fully guaranteed).
