Career

When Jennifer Capriati turned 13 in 1990, she made her professional tennis debut, setting a series of “youngest ever” benchmarks, the most notable of which was her registering as the youngest player to enter the semi-finals of a Grand Slam — 1990 French Open’s youngest semifinalist.

The young gelding did not let down, managing rather quickly to take her first professional title in 1990 and to earn a gold medal in the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.

Having taken a break from the sport, Capriati made an impressive return in the late 90s and early 2000s. In 2001 she clinched her first two Grand Slam Titles at the Australian and French Opens, reaching the World no. 1 ranking.

In 2002, she was able to continue with her success after winning the Australian Open for a second time. Capriati claimed 14 WTA singles titles which contained 3 Grand Slams during her career.

Capriati had to adjust herself to injured parts in the later stages but left a remarkable legacy and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in the year 2012.
