Joseph Carl “Jesse” Tretter Jr. (born February 12, 1991) is an American football center who is a free agent. Jesse Tretter proved to be the face of credibility for the Browns over the past five seasons, but the franchise announced Tuesday morning that it released the starting center in a cost-saving move.

According to Spottrack.com, the 31-year-old president of the NFL Players Association, Traitor was set to make $8.235 million with a salary cap hit of $9.86 million in 2022, the final season of his contract. Traitor hit a dead cap of $1.625 million. Releasing him would save Brown $8.23 million in salary cap space.

“For the past five seasons, Jesse has been a mainstay and iron man at the center for us,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said in a statement. “He came to our organization in times of instability and was one of the key stalwarts in helping turn the tide over the past several years. His leadership – both in the locker room and on the field – will be missed. We wish Jesse well do. He continues his career.”

In a letter posted on social media, he thanked the Browns and four-time Pro Bowl left guard Joel Bittonio.
