Jason Christopher Tatum Sr. (/ˈteɪtʌm/; born March 3, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). A McDonald’s All-American in high school in Missouri, he played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils before entering the 2017 NBA Draft. He was selected by the Boston Celtics with the third overall pick. A three-time NBA All-Star, Tatum was named the NBA Eastern Conference Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2022. He also won a gold medal on the 2020 US Olympic team in Tokyo.

For Jason Tatum, there should only be one mindset for Game 7 – the Mamba mentality.
Tatum is a disciple of the late Kobe Bryant’s philosophy, which is based on the idea that in order to achieve greatness, one must be over-committed to the task at hand.
“[The Mamba mindset is] all about focus,” Bryant once said. “I don’t care who you are, where you are from – it doesn’t matter. It’s having a focus and a purpose. You wake up every single day to be better today than you were yesterday. No matter what No matter what you are – basketball player, hockey player, golfer, painter, writer, doesn’t matter.”
With Game 7 being a win or home situation, Tatum demonstrated his full embrace of the Mamba mentality by wearing a purple and gold No. 24 armband and a Kobe Bryant-themed pair of Air Jordan 36s. The armband is fairly self-explanatory, as Bryant wore an armband throughout his career and rocked No. 24 for his illustrious career with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, Tatum’s shoes were a bit more finicky.

Regarding whether Tatum believes he went from not making the All-NBA team last year to making the first team, he said: “We won more games than we did last year. But I think Playmaking. Just being able to read the game so much better. The game slowed me down in a lot of ways, and I think that showed in my play.”
Making the All-NBA First Team is a tremendous achievement for the 24-year-old star. However, if he had made any All-NBA team last year, he would have received a $32.6 million bonus.
“What’s the saying, a day late and a dollar short,” laughed Tatum.
