Adnel Javier Baez (born December 1, 1992), nicknamed “El Mago” (Spanish for “The Magician”), is a Puerto Rican professional baseball shortstop for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets. Born in Puerto Rico, Baez attended high school in Jacksonville, Florida. The Cubs selected Baez as the ninth overall pick of the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut in 2014 and played for the Cubs for eight years before being traded to the Mets in 2021. After the 2021 season, he entered free agency, where he signed a six-year deal with the Tigers.

EZ’s dramatic walk-off hit gives Detroit Tigers 5-4 win over Chicago White Sox on Opening Day
JV Baez’s experience got off to a dramatic start on Opening Day when the latest Tiger went off the White Sox, hitting a base right-field wall, propelling Austin Meadows with a winning run at the bottom of the ninth inning. . on Friday.

Out of 132 qualified batsmen last season, Baez was ranked last in contact rate (62.2%) and swing-and-miss rate (40.5%). He had the fifth-highest strikeout in all baseball with 184, giving him a 33.6% strike rate. He walked just 28 times for a 5.1% walk rate.
In his eight-year career, Baij has a 29.3% strike rate and 4.8% walk rate.
His strike rate has increased every year since 2018. However, in 2021, he had a 36.3% strike rate with the Chicago Cubs (91 games) and a 28.5% strike rate with the New York Mets (47 games) after a trade in July. ,
“Last year, I cut (the strikeout) a little bit because I was focused on watching the ball,” Baez said. “I had a really good approach. But, you know, I want to keep that attitude and learn from Migi and the hitting coaches as well.”
