Adnel Javier Baez (born December 1, 1992), nicknamed “El Mago” (Spanish for “The Magician”), is a Puerto Rican professional baseball shortstop for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets. Born in Puerto Rico, Baez attended high school in Jacksonville, Florida. The Cubs selected Baez as the ninth overall pick of the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut in 2014 and played for the Cubs for eight years before being traded to the Mets in 2021. After the 2021 season, he entered free agency, where he signed a six-year deal with the Tigers.

Typically, he said, he’d shoot with a camera set highly specialized specifically for the type of photos that coveted the body issue. But with years of experience on larger, more complex shoots, Coulter finally decided that using a more basic piece of equipment would be an exciting challenge. “We thought we needed a lot of light and that was actually confirmed when we had a lot of light in the image on set, which really helped – so if we could keep the pace of the film as low as possible , so that would give us the highest resolution image – with the least digital noise in the image – and the best look when printed on a page. So it was one thing when we were shooting JV that we really made a point of,” Coulter said.

JV Baez’s experience got off to a dramatic start on Opening Day, following the latest Tiger walk from the White Sox with a base hit to the right-field wall, sweeping Austin Meadows to the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday.

The Arlington Country Day graduate scored two home runs on Thursday — his third in as many games — as the Chicago Cubs beat Colorado 6-2.

Baez became the first Major League Baseball player since St. Louis Joe Cunningham in 1954 to score three home runs in his first three games.

“I’m not panicked,” Baez told the Chicago Tribune. “I’m taking the game slow and thinking about the state of the game.”

Badge, who was drafted ninth overall in 2011, has been in tears since being promoted to the majors from Triple A Iowa on Monday. Badge’s first major league hit was a home run at the top of the 12th inning on Tuesday to beat Colorado.

Nickname
