Kansas city star
This is not a football story. But Jason Whitlock has become one of the most influential voices in all of American sports media, and he has spent 16 years covering the Chiefs for the Kansas City Star.
There won’t be a 17th, and a source close to Whitlock tells us he’ll be taking a full-time position with FOXSports.com. Given FOX’s recent push toward online video, see Whitlock doing more than just writing the column.
And this is where it gets good. Whitlock has arranged for three hours of radio time via our friend Nick Wright’s weekday show at KCSP to talk about the situation. (The show will also be broadcast on local television.) Named “The Explanation” in reference to the LeBron incident, the first hour will feature a monologue by Whitlock, the second hour will feature an interview with Whitlock by Wright, and The hour will be opened for calls in the last hour.
Salary
Jason Whitlock, an American sportscaster/anchor, has an estimated net worth of $10 million, which is comparable to that of NFL host Andrew Siciliano. As of 2019, the reporter earns $700,000 per year from his successful reporting career with Fox Sports 1.
Whitlock signed a three-year contract with FOX in 2010, paying him $2.1 million. According to reports, Whitlock’s previous salary was between $150,000 and $200,000. He was pleased with his new $700,000 annual salary.
What did do
In 1994, Whitlock was hired by The Kansas City Star. In 1998, Whitlock was suspended for disturbing fans at a Kansas City Chiefs game. The Scripps Howard Foundation honored Whitlock with its National Journalism Award for commentary on March 7, 2008. Whitlock was the first sportswriter to win the award and its $10,000 prize.
