Jaren Kentrell Reid (born December 16, 1992) is an American football defensive end for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Alabama, and was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

The chiefs appear ready to add a new piece to their defensive line.
The Star’s Sam McDowell reports that former Seattle defensive tackle Jaren Reid and the Chiefs are closing in on one-year contracts.
Reid, 28, has 22 sacks and 58 quarterback hits during his five seasons in the NFL, all with the Seahawks.
A year earlier, Reid had 6 1/2 sacks and 14 quarterback hits in 16 games with Seattle. During his first three seasons with the Seahawks, Reid was a teammate with the Chiefs’ defensive and Frank Clark.
Here are some highlights from Reid’s time with the Seahawks to reveal what he’ll bring to the Chiefs.
Suspension
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the league announced a six-game suspension for the 26-year-old Monday as a result of an alleged assault two years ago.
A woman accused Reid of assault in April 2017. Although the police investigated, he was not arrested or charged.
Reid has denied the allegations and said in his statement that he disagrees with the league’s decision to suspend him.
After 2018 was clearly his best season in the NFL, Reid’s absence on the field will be significant.
The 2016 second-round pick had a total of three sacks in his first two seasons before breaking with 10.5 sacks last year. He also had 24 quarterback hits, leading the team with 14 tackles to lose last year.
He was one of the best inner defenders in the NFL and was an important part of the 11th-ranked team in the league.
However, the Seahawks will have to play without him to begin the 2019 season, which is an even bigger loss considering that Frank Clarke was traded in the off-season. This does not leave anyone on the roster who had more than four sacks last season for the first six matches.
Veteran Ziggy Ansah and rookie LJ Collier could help crowd the passes, but Reid’s suspension would likely leave a hole in the middle of the defensive line.
Pff grade
After being officially bitten by the Seahawks last Friday, defensive tackle Jaran Reid has quickly found a new home. Per Jeremy Fowler for ESPN, Reid has agreed to join the two-time AFC Champion Chiefs.
Reed was the subject of trade talks until his release, but the Seahawks were unable to find a partner. In need of salary cap relief, Seattle waived about $9 million in spending money by cutting out the former second-round pick entirely. He was in the second and final year of a two-year, $23 million contract that would still cost the team a $5 million dead cap this season.
In five seasons in the Pacific Northwest, Reid recorded 126 combined tackles and 30 sacks on a total of 159 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. Despite serving a six-game suspension in 2019, he played well enough to earn that second contract. But as solid as that campaign was, 2018 was the best season ever for him.
That year, the PFF had them down on 55 pressures for 11 of those 30 sacks. That would be good enough for an overall grade of 68.1—the highest level of his career so far. Teamed with edge rusher Frank Clark, the two often had too much to oppose offenses tackling their ‘Legion of Boom’ defense in the Seahawks’ transition year.
