What happened
More often than not, this is often a clear sign of an Achilles injury and the Jaguars said Robinson would be out for the rest of the game when the second quarter began.
He held his head in his hands with a towel over his head as a medical cart carried him back to the team locker room. On the Jacksonville drive where Robinson was injured, it was the second play of a 15-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a touchdown.
The touchdown came after a foul by quarterback Trevor Lawrence who was recovered by offensive lineman Will Richardson Jr. He went for a two-point conversion which was unsuccessful.
Robinson was replaced to run back Dare Ogunbowale, who played 14 games this season. Before the game, he had six receptions for 14 yards and six for 42 yards on the field.
NFL
Robinson suffered an injury late in the first quarter against the Jets, on a run from teammate Tavon Austin. Robinson buried his head in a towel as he left the field. He ran three times for 10 yards at the beginning of the 16th week.
For most of the season, Robinson’s use has been the subject of panic among Jaguar fans. After a rookie season in 2020, Robinson was cut short under former head coach Urban Mayer.
Last week, Robinson had one of his better games of the 2021 season, running for 75 yards and a TD on 18 carries. In his two seasons, Robinson has rushed 404 times for 1,837 yards and 15 TDs and also caught 80 passes for 566 yards and three more scores.
Is hurt
Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson missed Thursday with a knee injury. He was able to do a limited exercise on Wednesday, so that’s something of a concern, but there may also be load management that Robinson might need. Friday will be the true test to see if he’s ready to go into a good matchup with the Jets.
Carlos Hyde was placed on injured reserve, so the Jaguars don’t really have a true backup. Tavan Austin and Dare Ogunbowale, who are getting more in between tackle backs like Robinson and Hyde. If they called a big back up from the practice squad, it would probably be bad news for Robinson’s chances of playing.
Fantasy Football Implications
It’s really hard to know at this point whether or not Robinson is getting rest for his knee injury, but chances are he’s still playing. If he can’t go, there’s no one on the Jaguars worth starting in your fantasy playoffs.
Is active
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Week 13 inactives and James Robinson is officially active for a matchup against the Rams. Robinson was listed as a suspect this week due to knee and heel injuries. He was limited in practice throughout the week.
It was always the expected result, as Robinson adapted despite injury last week against the Falcons. Jaguars have been disappointing across the board this season, but Robinson is a fine spec for his managers. It’s a tough matchup, but the running back deserves flex consideration on volume alone. With speculation about Urban Meyer leaving with a coaching hire in college football, there’s a chance Jacksonville will get a smattering of sorts over the next few weeks. The Rams are desperate for a win but Robinson can help with the upset with the game around him. He deserves a start in this game.
