Wikipedia

Outman grew up in Redwood City, California and attended Junipero Serra High School. In high school, he hit .305 with .508 slugging percentage and .962 fielding percentage and also played linebacker and tight end for the football team.

Outman attended California State University, Sacramento and played college baseball for the Sacramento State Hornets. He scored .249 runs in 147 games in three seasons with 23 homers and 99 RBIs. He also played for the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League in 2017 and the Humboldt Crabs in 2016.

Prospect

Although Outman batted just .249 in three seasons at Sacramento State, the Dodgers bought into his tricky all-around tools and selected him in the seventh round of the 2018 draft. He started breaking out with 11 homers in the final month of the 2019 season in Low-A and took another step forward in the second half of 2021, batting .297/.392/.568, moving up to Double-A. He built on that momentum in the Arizona Fall League and claimed a spot on the 40-man roster.

Outman began to do better at the plate as he gained a better sense of his left arm swing. He still wants to launch balls aggressively towards his bridge, but taking things slow has enabled him to chase fewer pitches out of the field and get his plus raw power more consistently. He still strikes a lot to post a high batting average, although he compensates by doing a lot of walking and hitting from the pitches.

One of the best athletes in the system, Outman is a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder with plus speed and arm.

College

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Outman in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He played with the Ogden Raptors in 2018 and the Great Lakes Loons in 2019. After missing the 2020 season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Outman started 2021 with the Loons, where he hit .250 with nine home runs and 30 RBIs. , He was promoted to the Double-A Tulsa Drillers in July and was named a Double-A central hitter two weeks later, when he had seven extra base hits, including three home runs in six games against the Springfield Cardinals. He scored .289 runs in 39 games for Tulsa with nine homers and 24 RBIs.

The Dodgers assigned him to the Glendale Desert Dogs of the Arizona Fall League after the season, where he was selected for the Fall Stars game for best prospects in the league. Outman was added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster in November 2021. He started the 2022 season with Tulsa before being promoted to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers in late June.

And boy, did they accomplish it as the Dodgers won their 21st game of the month—the most matches the franchise has ever seen—in July.
