The James Madison Dukes football program represents James Madison University in the game of American football. The Dukes compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) as a member of the Sun Belt Conference (SBC), starting play within the conference for the 2022 season. The university first fielded a football team in 1972, and Duke plays at the on-campus Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Duke is currently coached by Kurt Signetti.

Signeti has climbed the ladder in a 40-year football coaching career, leading JMU to his first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference and Football Bowl subdivision program in 2022.

His resume includes several FBS stops as an assistant coach and a 100–31 record (.763) in 11 seasons as a head coach, six at the NCAA Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2011–16), Two at Elon (2017- 18) and three at JMU (2019-present).

In three seasons with the Dukes, he compiled a 33–5 record with 18–1 points in conference play, while being a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. Signetti guided JMU to three straight CAA Championship and FCS playoff berths, reaching the 2019 national championship and the FCS semi-finals in both 2020 and 2021.

Statistics

Since that time, the Dukes have reached the playoffs 13 times, giving several recent players extra games to collect statistics.
Due to COVID-19 issues, the NCAA ruled that the 2020 season would not count against any football player’s athletic qualifications, giving everyone playing that season five years of eligibility instead of the usual four.
