The NBA has suspended Houston Rockets guard James Harden for one game after kicking LeBron James in Sunday’s 105-103 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Harden and James engaged in a great one-on-one fight during the game, with one seemingly trying to top the other on every right. But at one point, feelings boiled over as James attempted to tie Harden and force a jumping ball. In a minor scuffle, Harden directed a kick toward James’ midsection.

Harden remained in the game, only earning a major foul for the incident.

Houston Rockets star James Harden has been fined $50,000 by the NBA and ruled “unavailable” for Wednesday’s game due to a breach of the league’s COVID-19 protocols, as was the case earlier this week. Videos of him socializing without a mask were reviewed at the club.

Is Suspended

Harden will not be suspended.

Announcing that Wednesday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder was being postponed, the NBA said Harden was “unavailable due to a violation of health and safety protocols.” The Rockets did not have the league-required eight available players needed to proceed with the game.

Harden tested negative for COVID-19 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, a league source told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Suspended Or Not

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said on Thursday that Harden was lucky the punishment was not harsh, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said on Thursday.

“In a way he got lucky,” Silver said on ESPN. “The example is that discipline ratchets up. It’s Christmas. It was the first offense.”

The Rockets season opener against the Thunder was postponed on Wednesday night as the team did not have enough active players due to the COVID-19 contact tracing protocol. Had the game been played, Harden would have been docked for one game’s pay. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Harden has $284,000 in salary for each game.
