James Geoffrey Franklin (born February 2, 1972) is an American football coach and former player who is the head football coach at Penn State University. Franklin served as head football coach at Vanderbilt University from 2011 to 2013 before moving to Penn State.

New agent
The lack of offense—20 points against Iowa and just 18 against Illinois—has disappointed Lions fans. The fact that starting quarterback Sean Clifford is injured and thus limited is an excuse and a point of criticism. Why doesn’t Penn State have backup enabled? (Former backup Will Lewis has been transferred to Kentucky and is having an excellent season.)
And given Franklin, who is 65-30 years old at Penn State and previously had a phenomenal job at Vanderbilt, is being tied up as a candidate for open coaching jobs at LSU and USC, a new agent is needed. The thought of it raises eyebrows. Fair or not, fans wonder if he even wants to stay at Penn State.
So with the season — and perhaps Franklin’s future in state college — teetering, the Nittany Lions head to Columbus to play fifth-ranked Ohio State, which has begun to wipe out opponents after some early-season struggles. The Buckeyes have won their last four games at an average of 46.3 points.
It’s a college football game in which things like emotion, motivation and team morale play into betting decisions, not just Clifford’s health (100 percent, per Franklin) or the growth of Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud or the effect of a publicity Saturday. Night rush on horseshoe.

The former Penn State assistant took some taunts at the current Nittany Lion head coach at the Ohio State Skull session on Saturday, drawing attention to some of Franklin’s press conference blunders.
“I’m not sure he’s confused, but we’re not Illinois,” Johnson said. “We’re not in the Big House.”
“We’re not doing a white-out tonight, we’re doing a scarlet-out,” Johnson told the crowd, mocking one of the famous Nittany Lions traditions, tossing a white towel to the ground.

In 1999, he served as the wide receivers coach at Idaho State. That year, the Bengals recorded 29 touchdowns, 258 receptions and over 3,300 passing yards for one of the best statistical seasons in the school’s history. The state of Idaho was ranked ninth nationally in total crime that year.
