Jameis Winston: Why is Not Playing| When will return

Jameis Lane Winston (born January 6, 1994) is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Florida State University, where he became the youngest player to win the Heisman Trophy and led his team to victory in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game during his freshman year. Declaring for the NFL after his sophomore season, Winston was selected first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Why is Not Playing

He is not playing as the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints because he has suffered some injuries in the past. In 2022, he suffered a spinal fracture, which forced him to stay out of sports for some time. Even after recovering from that injury, he did not return to the field as the Saints decided to replace him with Andy Dalton as the starting quarterback. Therefore, he spent his time on the bench.

However, Jameis Winston is still under contract with the Saints for one more year, and that means he is not technically a free agent yet. He’s focusing on staying healthy and being ready to play when he gets the chance. But if the team doesn’t see him as their quarterback for 2023, they could release him to save money.

When will return

Instead of pursuing another chance to be the starter, Jameis Winston is staying in New Orleans. Winston, a former Pro Bowler who has mostly been a backup in New Orleans, has finalized a deal to return to the Saints for the 2023 season, CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson reports.
