Jamal Lee Adams (born October 17, 1995) is an American football stronghold for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at LSU, and was drafted sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Adams quickly became an influential starter for the Jets, making the Pro Bowl twice and being named the All-Pro. The Seahawks will end the 2021 season without one of their top defensive players, as the Pro Bowl and All-Pro safety is set to undergo surgery this week on the shoulder he was injured in Sunday’s win over the 49ers.
“Jamal Adams is going to have surgery, I think it’s on his shoulder tomorrow,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “Unfortunately, he got hit the wrong way, and he’ll have to recover. He’s been through this before, and he’s really shaken by it. We’re all pulling him to get out of this thing and as soon as possible.” Come back if you can. As Carroll noted, this is the same shoulder that Adams injured at the end of last season, which led to offseason surgery, although Carroll said the injury, “wasn’t as bad as it was last time, from what I think Am.”

Adams was dealing with a torn labrum and “suffered additional shoulder damage” in Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers. This is the same shoulder that required surgery last season. Adams is expected to make a full recovery and return to the field in 2022, according to Rapoport.
Adams played 12 games this season, recording a total of 87 tackles, two interceptions and five deflected passes. The 2021 campaign marked the first time in his career that he has not registered a sack. In the last four seasons, he had missed just six games.
Not a traditional safety by nature, Adams averaged over four sacks per season in the coming years. He is better known for his presence in the box and his ability in coverage to make rather downhill plays. The PFF classifies him as the number 63 safety in the league.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Adams suffered a torn labrum and other shoulder damage on Sunday and will have season-end surgery.
It is the same shoulder that Adams injured last season and underwent offseason labrum surgery to repair. The Seahawks expect Adams to make a full recovery for the 2022 season, but it is clearly a significant concern when a player suffers the same serious injury two years in a row.
It is also a major concern for the Seahawks that they are not getting the kind of return on their investment they were hoping for when they traded two first-round draft picks for Adams. Although he has shown glimpses of playing ability at times, he has not been the kind of player the Seahawks expected him to be, even when he was in good health.
Adams signed a four-year, $70 million contract with the Seahawks this year. His cap hit in 2022 will be $9.1 million.
