Since 2016, whenever the Dallas Cowboys played the Philadelphia Eagles, the debate centered on which team had the best quarterback: Dak Prescott or Carson Wentz.

Wentz was the NFL’s No. 2 overall draft pick that year; Prescott was the 135th pick. Prescott was named Rookie of the Year. A year later, Wentz had an MVP-type season, before ending prematurely with a knee injury; However, the Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl. But that debate ended when the Eagles traded Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and the Cowboys signed Prescott to a four-year, $160 million contract in March.

As the Cowboys and Eagles prepare to meet with quarterbacks Prescott and Jalen Hurts at Monday Night Football (ESPN, 8:15 p.m. ET) in Arlington, Texas, the debate isn’t so much about which signal-caller is better now. . Prescott, 28, has started 71 games and is a two-time pro bowler, while Harts, 23, has started six games. It’s more about what Prescott has become and what a pain can be. Both quarterbacks bring strong intangibles to the table.

Hurts entered the 2020 NFL Draft as a bigger question mark than other quarterbacks in the class. He displayed his NFL-caliber talent and winning pedigree in both Alabama and Oklahoma, but many pro scouts doubted his ability to be a capable pocket passer to the next level.

Because of his limitations as a passer, Hurts slipped into the second round of the draft, and what was even more surprising was the team that picked him. The Eagles, who signed Carson Wentz a year earlier to a $128 million deal, named the Hearts with the 53rd overall pick.

Soon after, the Hurts agreed to a four-year, $6,025,171 rookie contract with the team.

Fantasy

Eagles quarterback Jalen Harts completed 12 of his 23 pass attempts for 190 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions and reached 10 times for 82 yards and a touchdown.

fantasy effect

The Philadelphia offense struggled for much of the day on Sunday, and the Hearts had a lengthy touchdown pass to Jalen Rigor called back as the wide receiver stepped out of bounds before taking the catch. The good news is that the Hearts are running for a ton of yards and taking care of the football, but fantasy managers will be looking for more passing production in Week 3 against the Cowboys.

Issue

What a great year this has been for Jalen Hirts. After winning a championship in Alabama, relocating to Oklahoma and becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist, Hurts was selected 53rd overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2020 NFL Draft. This immediately sparked a quarterback controversy, as Carson Wentz was a resident franchise cornerstone.

During the season, Hurts was used sub-optimally – he would sometimes come for one play at a time and go back to the bench, or was used purely as a bait. It felt like the Eagles didn’t know how to use Hearts without bothering Wentz. Near the end of the season, when Wentz’s game finally became too disastrous to follow, the Eagles’ coaches put Hurts in the starter role and he showed he was ready to take the reins, becoming a quarter-and-a-half in the team. I got a shock of life. Half against the Packers.
