Injury
According to the Celtics, Crowder’s MRI revealed a sprained left ACL.
The Celtics’ official Twitter account announced the news of his injury on Sunday, noting that he left Game 4 against the Cavs with a knee sprain and would not return.
Crowder was involved in two scuffles during the game, as Kendrick Perkins pushed him after a physical fight on the block, and J.R. Smith took a swing at him later in the game. Smith was kicked out, and Crowder awkwardly bent his knee as he attempted to get out of the way of Smith’s punch.
Crowder has transformed himself into a valuable role player for Boston since joining the team as a part of the Rajon Rondo trade, averaging 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 24.2 minutes per game.
Of course, with the Cavaliers running to eliminate the Celtics, Crowder’s season is over, giving him time.
Draft
Arguably the best player in college basketball, and currently the front-runner to win Big East Player of the Year honors, Jay Crowder is in the midst of a stellar senior season that could very well earn him a deserved spot. . In the 2012 draft. One of the most accomplished players in the NCAA, on both ends of the floor, Crowder is the heart and soul of a Marquette squad that has exceeded expectations and will likely finish second in the very competitive Big East Conference. Getting to where he is now is somewhat of a miracle given his unique background, forcing him to attend two junior colleges before Marquette. However, given the success of the likes of Wesley Matthews, Lazar Hayward and Jimmy Butler over the past three years, NBA teams have expected Marquette prospects to have something of their own. Like all Marquette forwards who have come before him, Crowder is a very unconventional player in terms of his style of play. With a ripped frame more reminiscent of an NFL tight end than an NBA short forward prospect, Crowder isn’t a particularly fluid or explosive player, with strength, smarts, timing to work with rather than pure talent.
