Jade Corkill: Wife| Podcast| Heeling Tips| Net Worth
Jade Corkill cracks the Caveman-Bay Horse she helped build her career in the early 2010s – after a series of injuries kept the horse on the spur of the day for most of its life.
Wife
Three-time world champion healer Jade Corkill spent much of 2018 in a self-imposed sabbatical from the sport of team roping. He and his 2013-2014 gold-buckle partner Clay Tryon had left it earlier that spring, and Corkill knew he had some serious work to do.
Fast forward to June 2019, Corkill already has a cool $25,095 in the bank and at least a $40,000 jackpot win over the year. He’s ready to crack the rodeo road, coming to Reno with new partner and former Mount Huey of world champion Clay Smith, Travis Graves, a new horse and a new outlook on his roping that has earned him his 10th Wrangler. Ready to score a run. National final rodeo qualification and maybe even a fourth world title.
Podcast
On this episode of The Short Score, hosts Chelsea Schaefer and Caitlin chat with Jade Corkill about their Top Dollar Cowboy Christmas run.
Corkill just finished his week of rodeoing and shared his perspective on rodeo today. He also talks about his new partner, Clay Smith.
Schaefer and Gustav go on to earn more money in the PRCA team roping ranks, reshuffle the resistol rookie standings, and more.
Heeling Tips
I move my left hand forward when I need to move my tip around the hocks of the steer, sending more loops. If I didn’t do this, my loop would break and I would lose all the power of my rope. It’s all about putting out the right amount of rope. For example, if the steer takes a big hop that I don’t expect or is moving away from me, I’ll move my left hand toward my right to give my loop more reach into the steer’s hawks.
left hand back
If I commit to a throw and the steer stops or drags, I can pull my left hand back to keep my loop tight and keep it from falling in front of the steer. My left hand maintains balance by keeping a tight, straight line between my left hand and my hobo.
