Before Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, the PGA Tour was dominated by the likes of Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Trevino. They are known to have revolutionized the game of golf, popularizing it as they spent years on the course. Of course, with all of them retired now, the scenario is a bit different.
During a recent interview, Jack Nicklaus spoke about what golf meant to them, and what happens when he plays it now.
Masters Record:
Golfer | Masters wins | Years won |
---|---|---|
Jack Nicklaus | 6 | 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975, 1986 |
Tiger Woods | 5 | 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019 |
Arnold Palmer | 4 | 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964 |
Jimmy Demaret | 3 | 1940, 1947, 1950 |
Nicklaus is synonymous with the green jacket at the Masters. The golfer owns the record for most Masters wins with six. He won his first in 1963 before going back-to-back in 1965 and 1966.
Player, Nicklaus, and Trevino are all in the 80s, making golf or any physical activity a strenuous event for them. However, as per Nicklaus, the other two seem to be as active on the course as they can be.
