Jack Draper (20) is a tennis player from Great Britain with a career-high singles ranking of number 106. Click here for full player profile.

Jack Draper is proud to be in the top-100 of the ATP before his return to the Queen’s Club.

The 20-year-old is back at the Cinch Championship to build on his quarter-final performance last summer, which proved to be the catalyst for exactly the 12 months where the Briton won multiple ATP Challenger titles and climbed up the rankings.

Draper officially became the world number 99 on Monday and has compatriot Dan Evans to thank after his win over Mark-Andrea Heusler on Friday, which ensured that the Swiss ace did not move past the British number four could.

Before facing fourth-seeded Taylor Fritz on Monday, Wildcard said: “I’ve been working hard my entire tennis career to get into the top-100.

“Obviously I want to go further but when you are young people say it would be wonderful to be in the top 100,” he said. It’s definitely amazing achievement for me.

The 19-year-old wildcard’s father, Roger Draper, was once the chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association (2006–13), which governs the sport in the UK.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic revealed on Monday that the father of his Wimbledon rival Jack Draper once tried to persuade him to switch allegiance from Serbia to Britain.

World number one Djokovic won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 over 253rd-ranked Draper in a bid for a sixth Wimbledon and a record-equalling 20th Grand Slam title.

Prediction

Head-to-head: Davydovich Fokina 1-0 De Minaur (2-1 including ATP Challenger and Next Gen Final Match)

Alejandro Davydovich Fokina has won two of his five senior matches on the grass and defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets in the first round in London. World No 44 also won the Wimbledon Boys Singles crown in 2017.

Alex de Minaur holds a healthy 13-10 career record on the grass despite losing to Adrian Mannarino in the opening round at ‘S-Hertogenbosch’ last week. The world number 21 reached the semi-finals of the Queen’s Club last year, losing to eventual winner Matteo Berrettini. They then claimed the title at Eastbourne the following week.

The Australian defeated Reilly Opelka 6-4, 6-4 in the first round on Monday. The 23-year-old’s flat strokes are better suited for this surface than his rival, who is more comfortable on clay. This, combined with his senior grass court experience, he should see as a win.

Vaccine

In front of a packed crowd at the Cinch Championships on Monday, troubled world number 14 Taylor Fritz, 20, won 6-3, 6-2 to seal the biggest win of her career.

The wild card scored an extraordinary victory over Janik Sinar and Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals last year and looked home once again on the grass against Fritz to reach the second round at the ATP 500 event for the second consecutive season.

“Thank you all for the support. I really enjoyed my time here,” Draper said in his on-court interview. “I think since the start of my career, I haven’t played in front of so many people often, So last year’s experiences helped me today. The nerves are still there but I am happy with the way I played today.”

Health

British teen Jack Draper says he is unsure whether a bad case of COVID-19 in January could have led to a fall on his court at the Miami Open on Thursday.

Draper fell dramatically with apparent heat exhaustion during his ATP Tour debut against Mikhail Kukushkin at the Miami Open.

The 19-year-old Briton struggled through the Florida heat and humidity to get his heart rate and blood pressure checked before collapsing to the floor.

After being treated swiftly by doctors, when the umpire called the match for Kukushkin sat with an ice pack around his neck.
