Memphis Grizzlies announced that star point guard Jaa Morant will be reevaluated in two weeks with a knee injury. The news comes at an unfortunate time, as the Grizzlies are in search of the 2-seed of the Western Conference. With the playoffs only weeks away, the team expects Morant to return soon after that re-evaluation, as any extended absence beyond that point would jeopardize his playoff position. While these are all a matter of concern, Morant himself is not concerned about it.
In a tweet just minutes after the news was announced that he would be sidelined for at least two weeks, Morant indicated he was not worried. When initially hurt, Morant tweeted a “Hakuna Matata” gif of the Lion King, which seemed to indicate he was not worried. When news broke that he would miss more time than fans initially expected, Morant brought the GIF back in time

Morant had not played a game before Saturday, March 18, missing nine games in three weeks. However, the Grizzlies didn’t exactly struggle without him. He won seven straight games immediately after being sidelined, although he lost two straight before his return.
Prior to his injury, Morant was considered the MVP candidate amid his ascent to superstardom. When he was sidelined, he averaged 27.6 points, 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game, and will now look to gain momentum for the playoffs.
The Grizzlies’ only game in the regular season is a home game against the Boston Celtics on Sunday. They are seeded second to the Western Conference playoffs and will face the winner of the play-in tournament game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers in the first round.
