Moments before Tuesday night’s Grizzlies-Pelicans matchup — Ja Morant’s return to the NBA court for the first time in nearly eight months — the 24-year-old All-Star guard leaned against the wall inside the tunnel to collect his thoughts.
His teammates were going through their final seasons and preparing to join together one last time, but Morant needed some time to himself first.
He later faced mixed reactions at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans – excited, nervous traveling Grizzlies fans and roaring Pelicans faithful who applauded his every dribble – but there was no longer any anticipated countdown, There were no more hypothetical situations. Morant returned after missing the first 25 games of the season after being suspended for multiple instances of brandishing a gun in public last year.
