JC Jackson has agreed to a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, a person with knowledge of the deal told Mike Jones of USA Today Sports. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the settlement could not become official until Wednesday. Jackson receives $40 million in guaranteed money. The 26-year-old came to New England as a free agent and quickly became one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. On Monday, he was paid like one.

On a hillside in the New England Patriots training camp sits some special company.

Family that is – The players’ families and friends make up a larger group than the rest.

New England Patriots cornerback Jesse Jackson’s mother Lisa Dasher and father Christopher Jackson knew their son had a special talent before he was a teenager.

“It was between five and six years during Pop Warner,” Lisa said. “The first time they gave him the ball, he scored a touchdown and I said that day, ‘My son is going to play for the Florida Gators.

Christopher said that Jackson was incredibly skilled on the other side of the ball, but a coach told him otherwise.

The prospects for what might be the future for the once highly touted recruit changed dramatically during the spring of 2015 and into that fall.

Charged in connection with an armed robbery, Jackson was tangled up with the prospect of jail time, facing four first-degree felony counts—three counts of home assault with a deadly weapon and one count of theft of an occupied residence— In which each carried a minimum sentence of 10 years and maximum life imprisonment.

At the time, Jackson was tending to a lost career that would end with a myriad of do-and-eats. For some star athletes it becomes their whole story.
