Vs Marvin vettori 2 stats
Israel Adesania put together a striking clincher and used an unprecedented takedown defense to retain his middleweight championship with a unanimous decision victory over rival Marvin Vettori at UFC 263 on Saturday.
In their first meeting three years ago, Adesanya defeated Vettori by split decision and his opponent claimed that he had won the fight. In the rematch, the result was far more certain; Adesanya showed his improvisation in defending the takedown as well as engulfed his opponent with pinpoint striking.
It was a relatively easy night at the office for the champion, who made it a point to hit his opponent with a leg kick in the opening round. Vettori was able to secure a takedown, but could not get into any offense as Adesanya managed to get to his feet. The Italian often pressed for takedowns and shot, but Adesanya continued with a crisp combination and leg kicks as he completed most of the effort.

Marvin Vettori shares his thoughts about Paulo Costa drinking the night before his title match against Israel Adesania at UFC 253.
After a one-off loss to Adesanya, the Brazilian infamously claimed he was not sober the night before. In order to fall asleep in Abu Dhabi, Costa said he decided to drink a bottle of wine.
During a recent interview with ESPN MMA, Marvin Vettori questioned Costa’s decision to quit drinking before a title fight. The Italian even claimed that ‘Borachinha’ should have still been fine to fight normally the next day.

Vettori comes out with pressure early on and even throws a leg kick of his own, but now he’s getting a little awkward and Adesanya hits Vettori in the back with some clean shots. The brawling legs may provide Vettori the best chance to strike but it also creates a great opportunity for Adesanya to cool him off.
A few more exchanges with Adesanya getting the better of it and now Vettori shoots and gets a double against the fence, but Adesanya is strong so far. Vettori gets closer but he eventually has to leave it and they are back in space.
Vettori is indeed coming forward now and although he is still missing, to his credit he has been read on Adesanya’s slips and is throwing in the way of Adesanya’s retreat. It’s cool, at least in concept. Meanwhile, Adesanya is still picking up his shots and landing cleanly, especially to set them up. The whole time, Adesanya is still kicking low.
