The 5-foot-9-inch (1.75 m) point guard played three years of college basketball for the Washington Huskies and was a three-time All-Conference selection in the Pac-10. He later signed with the Washington Wizards in July 2019, before being traded again mid-season, this time to the Los Angeles Clippers where he was waived shortly afterwards. Born to James Thomas and Tina Baldtrip, Isaiah Thomas was named after former Detroit Pistons Hall of Fame guard Isiah Thomas. A lifelong Lakers fan, James made a bet with a friend that his beloved team would beat the Pistons in the 1989 Finals or that he would name his son after Lakers nemesis Isiah Thomas. The Pistons won in a four-game sweep, but James had warmed up to the name well before that. His mother agreed on the condition that it be the biblical spelling. He was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. As a child, he had “Bighead” (or Head) from his father and Isiah Thomas after the surname from his mother. “Zeke” was the nickname.
