The 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship is the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship of Test cricket. It started on 1 August 2019 with the first Test of the 2019 Ashes series, and will finish with the Final at the Rose Bowl, Southampton in June 2021.

World cup
The tournament is being played over two years. Each team play six other opponents, three at home and three away. Each series consists of between two and five Test matches. Therefore, all participants do not play the same number of Tests, but play the same number of series. At the end of the league stage the top two teams play in the final. Each match is scheduled for a duration of five days. All players involved has a squad number, even if they have never made their debuts in ODI or T20I teams.

Toss was also delayed earlier on Friday because of rain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter to reveal that the play will start on the scheduled time on Saturday — 3pm IST. The New Zealand board tweeted that 98 overs will be bowled on Saturday.

Test 2021
Rain played spoilsport on Day 1 of the much-anticipated final of the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand in Southampton. As play was washed out on Day 1, social media was abuzz with memes and jokes about the title clash. Former England captain Michael Vaughan was one of those to join in on the jokes as he took a swipe at the Indian team. “I see India have been saved by the weather,” Vaughan teased on Twitter. Vaughan immediately faced the ire of Indian supporters.
