Iker Casillas Fernández (born 20 May 1981) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Popularly dubbed “San Icar” (“Saint Iker”) for his ability to make superb saves, Casillas is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalscorers of all time. He is known for his athleticism, quick reactions and excellent shot-stopping ability. Spain legends Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol found themselves in hot water after a bizarre conversation on social media.
While Casillas and Puyol played on opposite sides of El Clasico for years as captains of Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two enjoyed regular friendships on the Spanish national team. They are both now retired, with Casillas hanging up his boots in 2020, while Puyol made time for his career in 2014.
Casillas’ personal life has been largely covered in Spain since his retirement, much to his annoyance.

By India Today Web Desk: Former Spain captain and Barcelona defender Carles Puyol has issued an apology for being called a ‘clumsy joke’ following his reaction to a gay tweet from the official account of Iker Casillas.
A post on Casillas’ official account on Sunday said: “I hope you respect me: I’m gay” to which Puyol replied: “It’s time to tell our story, Iker.”
The post on the Casillas account was later deleted and he said that his account had been hacked and he apologized to his fans and the LGBT community, as Puyol said that what he said was a “clumsy joke”. .
Puyol, who apologized after receiving severe criticism on social media, has now deleted that reaction as well.
