Is still in jail

Former US Women’s National Team star Hope Solo is facing multiple charges, including DWI, following Thursday’s arrest in Winston-Salem, NC. Solo, 40, has been charged with impaired driving (DWI), resisting arrest, and child abuse, according to an email from the Winston-Salem PD. The latter charge came after officers discovered her two children, two-year-old twins Vittorio and Lozen, in the car at the time of the crime.

Solow was taken to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center and later released after processing. “On the counsel’s advice, Hope cannot talk about the situation, but she wants everyone to know that her children are her life, that she has been released immediately and is now at home with her family. That story is more sympathetic than the initial allegations suggest, and she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these allegations,” Nicole wrote.

What happened

A police report said Solo was arrested Thursday in the parking lot of a shopping center in Winston-Salem and charged with impaired driving, resisting a public official, and child abuse. The report indicated that he has been released from prison and the court date is June 28.

According to the arrest warrant, a passerby saw Solo pass by for more than an hour with the vehicle’s engine running behind the steering wheel and two children in the back seat.

A defendant officer could smell the alcohol, and the warrant said Solo refused a field sobriety test and had his blood drawn instead.

She was suspended for 30 days in early 2015 after she and husband Jeremy Stevens were pulled over in a van owned by US Soccer and Stevens was charged with a DUI. He was also benched after coach Greg Ryan’s decision to start Briana Scurry against Brazil during the 2007 World Cup was publicly questioned, seen by many as a minor remark against Scurry.
