The much-awaited boxing match between two great fighters, Evander Holyfield and Vitor Belfort, is taking place tonight at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel.

The main event was to see another legendary boxer in the ring against former UFC champion Belfort, but Oscar de la Hoya, 48, contracted COVID-19 earlier this month and had to pull out of the match. The match was supposed to be the return of De La Hoya, as he retired in 2009.

De la Hoya is replaced by 58-year-old Evander Holyfield, who will fight 44-year-old Belfort after 10 years since his last boxing match – a win against Brian Nielsen in 2011. The event was initially scheduled to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but was moved to Florida because the California State Athletic Commission refused to license Holyfield. It is unclear whether the match will appear on each fighter’s professional boxing record or will be treated as an exhibition.

However, the fight will still be like a professional fight that will follow the official rules. However, there will be eight rounds of 2 minutes each, compared to the traditional 10 or 12 rounds of 3 minutes each. Holyfield vs. Belfort is expected to begin at 7 p.m. PT.

Evander Holyfield, 58, returned to the boxing ring on Saturday night to face former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort in the main event of the Triller Fight Club pay-per-view. The concerns of those who felt Holyfield should not step into the ring, even in an exhibition capacity, were quickly proved right as Belfort won the TKO in the first round.

Holyfield quickly looked his age, unbalanced on his early power punches, missed a wild shot that caused him to turn around and fall to the ground. After Holyfield was back on his feet, Belfort landed a hook and an uppercut that tripped Holyfield to the back before hitting the canvas.
