Hilary Nelson’s body was found on Wednesday and taken to a forensic laboratory in Kathmandu after the famous American ski climber died during an expedition in Nepal, according to Sachindra Kumar Yadav, a tourism department official.
The 49-year-old American, who has enjoyed a famed career spanning two decades, went missing from the summit of Nepal’s Mount Manaslu – the world’s eighth highest mountain.
Nelson was the mother of two children, according to The North Face, and her partner is also a veteran ski climber, Jim Morrison, which sponsors American.
On Wednesday, Morrison said in an Instagram post that he and Nelson were skiing down the summit of Manaslu to rejoin their Sherpa team when the 49-year-old “started a small avalanche.”
