In July 2021 he won the World Open Chess Tournament in Philadelphia. Nieman first entered the list of top 100 junior players on March 1, 2019 at 88th position. As of September 2022, he is the 6th highest-rated junior in the world and 45th overall.

Hans Niemann is an American Grandmaster and chess dreamer. Neiman quickly rose through the ranks of chess, earning his FIDE Master title in 2016, only four years after his first rated tournament, where he only received a provisional US chess rating of 1122. He finished first in the U-18 North American Youth. championship in the same year. Niiman then earned his International Master title in 2018 and his Grandmaster title in 2021. In July 2021, he joined the U.S. Junior Championship Won.
Neiman’s ratings continued to rise throughout 2022 and he was invited to the 2022 Sinkfield Cup. In the third round, Niemann achieved a 2700 live rating as well as a score of 2.5/3 in the tournament when he defeated GM Magnus Carlsen with black pieces. However, just before the next round, Carlsen withdrew from the tournament without apparently giving any reason. Speculation following Carlsen’s return was largely centered on potential fair play concerns over Niemann’s recent performances in the Sinckfield Cup and elsewhere.
