Gylfi Sigurðsson has been arrested for alleged violations against a child.
Manchester Police arrested English League and Iceland national team Everton player Gylfi Sigurðsson on Friday on suspicion of sexual offenses against a child.
Everton confirmed yesterday that a core group of players have been left out of the squad due to a police investigation. “The company continues to support the authorities’ investigation and will not be issuing any further statements at this time,” the company said in a statement.
British newspapers the Daily Mail and The Sun, among others, reported the arrest yesterday without naming Gylfi. Their report said that police had searched Gilfi’s house in connection with the case, but he was released on bail after his arrest. It was revealed that the player was 31 years old, married and the allegations were serious.
What happened to
“The 33-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with an investigation launched in June 2021, will face no further action,” Manchester Police said in a statement on Friday. “The investigation team and the Crown Prosecution Service are working together and have come to the decision that the evidence available at this time does not meet the threshold set in the Code for Crown Prosecutors.”
“Greater Manchester Police is committed to investigating the allegations to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone involved and will continue to work with partner agencies to ensure individuals receive support throughout the investigation and beyond. “
The player has never spoken publicly on this issue. However, his father asked the Icelandic government to come to his son’s aid in October.
