Gregory McCarl Hardy (born July 28, 1988) is an American mixed martial artist and former football defensive end currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he competes in the heavyweight division. He first played in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons, primarily with the Carolina Panthers. Hardy played college football at Ole Miss and was selected by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Greg Hardy has issued a statement following his nasty knockout loss to Sergei Spivak at tonight’s UFC 272 event.
Hardy (7-5 MMA) entered tonight’s bout with hopes of snapping a two-fight losing skid. The former NFL star was coming off back-to-back stoppage defeats to Tai Tuiwasa and Marcin Tybura in his previous efforts.
Meanwhile, Sergei Spivak (14-3 MMA) also entered UFC 272 in search of a comeback. The ‘Polar Bear’ suffered a TKO loss to Tom Espinall in his last Octagon appearance last September.
Greg Hardy begins tonight’s fight with a pair of heavy low kicks. However, after swinging and missing a right hand, Sergei Spivak was able to go in and score a big takedown. “The Prince of War” was initially able to get back on its feet, but it didn’t last long. Spivak tosses him back down to the canvas and proceeds to take full mount position. From there, Sergei landed several big punches that forced the referee to step in and stop the contest.
Controversy
Throughout his mixed martial arts career, Greg Hardy has largely shrugged off criticism and questions from his past controversies.
That changed on Saturday after a TKO win over Maurice Greene in the second round of the UFC on ESPN 39.
Hardy’s trouble with the law has long been a topic of discussion throughout his professional athletic career – everything he said was behind him. But on Saturday, Hardy (7-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) claimed, his past, in some way, shape, or form, re-presented itself hours before the fight.

On Monday, ESPN further reported:
A source told ESPN’s Ed Vedder that the NFL saw all of the police photos released Friday by NFL investigator Lisa Friel during a trip to North Carolina in April, before Hardy was suspended by the NFL. The source tells Vedder that the NFL also sued the state of North Carolina for the right to see seven additional photos related to the incident.
