Trip gif
A third-year Grizzlies guard, Allen has developed a fairly negative reputation for allegedly tripping opponents on the basketball court, dating back to his days at Duke, and appears to have followed him in the NBA. Saturday’s matchup showed potentially more of Allen’s tripping ways in the Hawks’ 122-112 win over the Grizzlies, and Atlanta star Trey Young took notice. Young posted a GIF of Allen with a slightly aggressive defense — maybe a little too aggressive for Young’s likes.
Caruso video
Bucks guard Grayson Allen has been suspended one game Friday for his Flagrant-2 foul against the Bulls, the NBA announced. Allen was knocked out in the third quarter of the Bucks’ win when he swiped in midair during a lap attempt on Bulls guard Alex Caruso, a move that crashed Caruso to the ground. On Saturday, the Bulls announced that Caruso would require surgery and would not play for the next six to eight weeks against the Bucks after sustaining a fractured wrist. Before the news of Caruso’s injury was announced, the Bucks also tweeted a flippant video of Allen, prompting a reaction from the Bulls’ social media team. Bucks’ tweet has since been deleted. After Friday’s game, Bulls coach Billy Donovan called on the NBA to further review the incident, which he said “could jeopardize [Caruso’s] career.”
Cheap shot
Bucks shooting guard Grayson Allen has been suspended for a game on Saturday for a foul against Bulls guard Alex Caruso during his game. Caruso’s agent, Greg Lawrence, called the foul a “cheap shot” in a statement to ESPN. “I expect the league to focus not only on Alex Caruso for a dangerous, unnecessary and dirty game that caused this significant injury, but also on his own history of abusive players,” Lawrence told ESPN. “It was a cheap shot at an aerial, defenseless player that resulted in a broken bone that would require surgical repair and cause Alex to miss at least two months of the season.” Caruso was not pleased with anyone himself. “Dude grabbed me by the air,” Caruso told reporters. “It’s like ox-. I don’t know what else you can do about it. I’m just glad I haven’t got any major scary injuries yet.”
College
During Allen’s freshman season at Duke, he averaged 4.4 points per game and was named to the ACC’s all-academic team.Allen was a major contributor to the NCAA Tournament. On April 7, 2015, he scored 16 points to help Duke win the NCAA Championship Game. After the game, commentators cited Allen as one of the main reasons for Duke’s victory. Coach Mike Krzyzewski agreed, saying, “We were dead in the water. We were nine. Points were down and Grayson got us on our backs.” Allen gained national attention after an incident during a game against the Louisville Cardinals. On February 8, 2016, Allen was assessed a major-a-foul after implicating Louisville forward Ray Spalding. Commentators said the move appeared to be intentional, as Spalding was jumping over him while Allen kept his foot on the ground.
