It has always been in Grant Williams’ nature to play the role of an instigator even so he took it too far against his old team on Friday night. Last night, Williams was thrown out of the game during the fourth quarter of the Hornets’ 124-109 loss to the Boston Celtics for a flagrant foul against Jayson Tatum.

There were just a little over two minutes left to play, Bridges went for a layup which he missed then the Celtics went the other way. Williams came out from nowhere and leveled Tatum as he was racing up the middle of the court. Tatum was unfazed by the foul and it ensured that the situation was quickly calmed down.

The officials reviewed the sequence on the monitor and upgraded the foul to a flagrant-2, which is an automatic ejection.

“After review Grant Williams appears to increase the speed of his body to a level whereby he bears into the dribbler and [commits] a non-basketball play [that] is injurious,” said crew chief James Williams. “Due to these reasons the play has been upgraded to a Flagrant foul penalty two.”

Contract
