A witness told CNN he “collapsed” while covering the Argentina-Netherlands match on Friday. Qatar’s World Cup organizers said on Saturday that Wahl “fell ill” in the press area, where he received “immediate medical treatment on site”. He was then transferred to Hamad General Hospital, said a spokesman for the Supreme Court Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the body responsible for planning the tournament.

Wahl, who covered American and world soccer on his substack, CBS Sports, NBC News and previously worked for Sports Illustrated, was “healthy” before collapsing during a game on Friday, according to brother Eric in an Instagram post he posted.
