The 52-year-old, who played 100 Test matches for England for over 12 years, is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment and had recently accepted a job as Afghanistan’s head coach.
The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) of England made an announcement about the former batsman’s health on Tuesday.
“Graham Thorpe recently fell seriously ill and is currently being treated in hospital,” he said.
“His prognosis is unclear at this stage and we ask for privacy for him and his family at this time. Our thoughts are with Graham and his family.”
