High school

George Pickens: High school| Age| College| 40 time

Pickens attended Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama. As a senior, he made 69 receptions for 1,368 yards and 16 touchdowns. He played in the 2019 Under Armor All-American Game. A five-star recruit, he originally committed to Auburn University to play college football before turning his commitment to the University of Georgia.

Age

Pickens has had some disciplinary issues, but he is only 21 years old and could develop to No. 3 after Dionte Johnson and Chase Claypool. With the Steelers quarterback position a work in progress, Pickens is a long shot for consistent early career fantasy production, but he has a long-term upside. Consider that with a late-round pick.

College

Pickens earned immediate time to play in his freshman year in Georgia in 2019, leading the team in receptions (49), receiving yards (727) and touchdowns (8). The following season, Pickens made 36 passes for 513 yards and a team-leading 6 touchdowns in an 8-game season shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the spring of 2021, Pickens tore his ACL, causing him to miss most of his junior season. He returned to play the final four games of the year, catching only 5 passes, but recorded a 52-yard reception in Georgia’s win over Alabama in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Pickens Announced for 2022 NFL Draft After Season.

40 time

Pickens has now fully recovered from his injury, running 4.47 40-yard dashes in the NFL Combine. With a loaded group of receivers in this year’s draft class, it’s probably understandable that he wasn’t a first choice for some teams. Still, after showing interest over the past few months, the Steelers pulled the trigger.
