When Griffin captured the most prestigious award in college football, he also put a somewhat unintentional Heisman tradition on the back burner. … Playing in the BCS National Championship Game is not a prerequisite for winning the Heisman.
Punched:
The safest place for a quarterback, other than his own home, is supposed to be the locker room, where he stands on a figurative pedestal as the leader of the team. Five years ago, the sanctity of the Jets’ locker room was shattered in a shocking way that transcended sports and returned the star-crossed franchise to — ahem — punchline status.
As late-night talk-show host Conan O’Brien joked in his monologue, “The Jets finally get a player who can hit and they release him.” Enemkpali, a 260-pound linebacker selected in the sixth round of the 2014 draft, was cut immediately by Bowles.

The New York Jets draft West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the 39th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Smith re-signed with the Seahawks on May 20, 2020. He re-signed with the team again on April 22, 2021. Smith made his first appearance of the 2021 season in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams after Russell Wilson left the game with a finger injury.
NFL Career:
Geno Smith finally has another chance to start for an NFL franchise, this time replacing the Seahawks for an injured Russell Wilson. If his debut against the Rams was any indicator, then jump on board, because it’s going to be a fun ride.
The Seahawks lost their game to Division rivals 26-17, but Smith played well in relief, throwing a touchdown and energizing the “12th Man” in Seattle.
