Contract:

Gardner Minshew signed a 4 year rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on May 10, 2019 after being selected in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL draft. The contract total is $2,711,616 with $191,616 guaranteed via signing bonus.

The Eagles traded away a conditional sixth-round pick to get Minshew, an obvious upgrade as their third-string quarterback in 2021 and an extremely cheap and adequate backup option in 2022. The most this trade will cost Howie Roseman and the Eagles is a fifth-round pick. Low risk, high reward.

The Eagles, apparently not comfortable with their third quarterback situation, traded for former Jacksonville Jaguars starter Gardner Minshew on Saturday morning.

The Eagles sent Jacksonville a conditional sixth-round pick and also waived Nick Mullens, who had served as the third quarterback during the preseason.

It’s unlikely, at least for now, that Minshew will overtake Joe Flacco as the backup to Jalen Hurts. Flacco, the University of Delaware legend and South Jersey resident, has had a strong preseason, and he’s entering his 14th NFL season.
