Philadelphia HC Nick Siriani spoke Thursday morning and confirmed that Minshew would get his first start of the year against Dallas. He will slide into an interdivision tilt in an extremely tough matchup against the brutal Cowboys defense. With QB Jalen Hurts recovering from a shoulder injury, it is possible Minshew makes multiple starts going forward, possibly even closing out the regular season under center. His arrival means a slight decline for the Eagles’ pass-catchers across the board—primarily A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert.

Minshew began playing football for Brandon High School in 2011, serving as the starting quarterback for the all-freshman team until varsity quarterback Trey Polk broke his arm during the season. The next year, Minshew helped lead the Brandon Bulldogs to the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 6A championship game, where they lost 31–23 to South Panola. Minshew had 223 passing yards and a touchdown in the title game. He led the Bulldogs to an MHSAA state championship win as a senior in 2014, with 3,541 passing yards and 31 touchdowns en route.
