Vs Osaka

Garbine Muguruza

Naomi Osaka has conjured a remarkable, resilient win out of what should’ve been a loss, saving two match points and winning the last four straight games of her match against Garbine Muguruza to secure an Australian Open quarter-final berth.

Osaka, the 2019 Open champion, appeared doomed for an earlier-than-expected exit during the final set, down 3-5 and 15-40 on her serve against Muguruza — the 14th seed and two-time grand slam champion.

Former French Open and Wimbledon champion Muguruza ended a two-year title drought on Saturday by beating unseeded Czech Barbora Krejcikova in Dubai Open final.

Spain’s Garbine Muguruza rose three places to 13th in the WTA rankings on Monday after winning the Dubai Open at the weekend.

Spanish-Venezuelan tennis star Garbine Muguruza, who did a business course at Harvard, has revealed that she is now matured enough to see life beyond tennis and wants to learn more about the business world.

Muguruza began the 2014 season with a quarterfinal appearance at the Auckland Open, where she lost to former world No. 1 and eventual runner-up, Venus Williams. The following week, Muguruza qualified and eventually won her first WTA singles title at the Hobart International by defeating Klára Zakopalová in the final in straight sets.

At the Australian Open, Muguruza recovered from a set down to defeat tenth seed Caroline Wozniacki in three sets to reach the fourth round for the first time where she lost in straight sets to the fifth seed, Agnieszka Radwańska. She and Arantxa Parra Santonja also reached the second round of the doubles event where they lost in straight sets to the eighth seeds, Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears.
